ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO: COMMUNICATE KNOWLEDGE
- Communicates effectively in oral and written formats
- Effectively communicates content through the design and delivery of teaching/learning activities that integrate content and pedagogy
- Demonstrates the ability to adapt instruction and assessment techniques to the needs of diverse learners
NARRATIVE:
Communicates effectively in oral and written formats: The Jet Blue Evaluation Proposal project in EDCI 577 (Strategic Assessment and Evaluation) was written in the form of a business letter to the Training Manager of JetBlue University and includes evaluation recommendations based on the company’s already successful training program. To satisfy the request of the CEO, the proposed evaluation framework describes the process and methods that will be used to identify the program’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as it’s return on investment. Evaluation recommendations were made based on the Kirkpatrick Model, but other research was used as well.
Effectively communicates content through the design and delivery of teaching/learning activities that integrate content and pedagogy: I use my analysis of the Beth Owens Case (from "The ID Casebook") to illustrate my competency of communicating knowledge through activities that integrate content and pedagogy because the reasonable solutions and recommendations for this case use constructivism to integrate the specific content to solve the design challenges identified in the original case study.
Demonstrates the ability to adapt instruction and assessment techniques to the needs of diverse learners: In EDCI 577, Strategic Assessment and Evaluation, I had the opportunity to create the Garageband Evaluation Plan. I chose to look at the piano lessons within Apple’s Garageband software. Because this is a commercial product, and is offered to the public for free with purchase of an Apple product, there is a wide range of users. These users vary widely in age (8-90+), experience (none to professional) and accessibility (all types of physical abilities and disabilities). Assessment was adapted to include all learners by leveraging guidance, filtering by experience, and providing options for completion of assessment activities. The artifact included here is the introductory plan for the assessment and not the entire final project.
